My woodworking journey began in 2015. I was cleaning out the garage and I uncovered a 20 year old Craftsman scroll saw that might have been used 3 times before it was buried under 20 years of “life”. I decided I’d start playing with it, and I found that while working with wood, my stress drained away and I would enter a completely relaxed state mentally and physically. I was hooked!
After crafting a few small gifts and sharing them on social media, I was delighted when other friends wanted to buy my creations. As a dog lover–my breed of choice is basset hounds— many of my projects showcased the breed I love. Since then, I have been honored to make prizes for many organizations to be awarded at dog shows and matches. Now, my work spans many different dog breeds.
I am also a big supporter of dog rescue. Part of what I do is to sell my crafts in order to make donations, or to provide low cost hand crafted items that can be auctioned off to raise critical funds .
With every new project, I challenge myself to broaden my skills. I believe Mother Nature is an amazing artist, and my goal is to make the inherent character of the wood the focal point of each project. Unlike a carpenter, I don’t drastically alter the wood to make it perfect– I want to showcase its natural beauty.
I don’t often shop for wood, but I cannot resist an unusually eye catching piece. It’s not unusual for lumber to lay about in my shop for a while, waiting for the right project to come along. And when that perfect project appears, my joy is in bringing these pieces to life, allowing them to tell their own beautiful stories.
I hope that we can create a story together through the work that I create for you.
